Update on the new servers

Just thought I'd give you all an update on what's been happening with the new servers. Some of you probably know by now, that we're back on a rented host; it's a bit of a beast - quad core Xeon 3.7Ghz, 64GB RAM, mirrored 2TB SATA3 drives and 300 Mbps network.

This power allows us to run multiple servers on the same machine, and you can jump between them in game, without logging out and can chat to other players even if they're on a different server. It's really quite cool :)

So, we've got 7 servers running; one lobby and 6 differently themed servers to play on. To jump server just type / followed by the server name in chat or if you're on the lobby server, you'll find portals that you can just walk into.

The Servers

Lobby - This is a small floating island world. When you enter, you'll be in Adventure mode with god switched on. You'll see the portal buildings here that take you to the other servers, or you can just jump with the server join command. Type /lobby in game to get here.

ItchyDog - This is our normal survival world brought over from the old host. Type /itchydog in game to get here.

ChewToy - This is the creative world from the old host. Type /chewtoy in game to get here.

DogEatDog - This is the PvP world brought over from the old host. It's standard PvP, plus you can seige other players to steal their stuff, and Naru is putting some quests together on here. Type /dogeatdog in game to get here.

Cerberus - This is a new server and works a bit differently to normal. Cerberus runs Hunger Games; when you join, you'll have fly mode for a while to quickly scout the landscape, then the game will start. There's a countdown while you have invincibilty and then it's time to survive, hunt other players, whatever strategy you choose. There are special ability kits, and during the game, a feast is announced, where you can rush in to grab new kits.

Oh, yes, after a while, the world will start to shrink (the border will damage you), so all players are forced towards the middle of the world for the final showdown. If you die, you'll be re-incarnated as a flying spectator to watch the rest of the game. When the game is over, Cerberus will teleport you back to the lobby, and generate a new random world for the next game. Type /cerberus in game to get here.

DogHouse - This is a RPG server. You'll be able to level up various skills (with a fireworks display each time you level), there are NPCs being added, along with quests to come. Mobs also level up and get progressively harder, the further you go from spawn, so get those sword skills up :)

This one's quite fun, and currently one of my favourites :) Type /doghouse in game to get here. Oh yes, ice mountains are not too common on DogHouse, but if you do find them, they are likely to have rich yields of diamonds ;)

Rabid - This one has a custom world generator; the entire world is covered in huge deserts with areas of jungle and less common forests. The mobs on Rabid are particualryl aggressive and will not only build up and across air gaps to get to you, they'll also destroy any torches they come across. Probably, your best hope for survival here is to start or join a Faction. If your Faction gets strong enough, you might want to start a war against opposing players and keep those precious jungle zones to yourself. Type /rabid in game to get here.

Sethome is global across all servers, and Hounds can set a home on all servers except for Cerberus (not much point there as it continually resets its world). Just give each home a name when you set it it - for example /sethome DH-home etc. You can do /homes to list all your homes and you can jump directly to a home even if it's on a different server.

So, what are you waiting for? Get on Itchy Dog and have some fun!
